How to Play:

Objective

Strive to win the highest number of tricks in each round to achieve victory.

Dealing Cards

A standard international 52-card pack is used, but only 32 cards are in play. Each player receives two batches of four cards, resulting in a total of eight cards per player.

Choosing the Trump Suit

The player to the dealer's right selects the trump suit, which will hold higher value over other suits for the entire round.

Leading the First Trick

The player who chose the trump suit leads the first trick by playing any card from their hand. Other players must follow suit if possible; otherwise, they can play any card.

Winning Tricks

The highest card of the suit led wins the trick unless trumps are played. In that case, the highest trump card takes the trick. The player who wins a trick leads the next one.

Counting Tricks and Tokens

After the eighth trick, both teams count the tricks they've won. Earning 5, 6, or 7 tricks with the trump suit awards one token to the team that chose the suit. Winning the same number of tricks without the trump suit gives two tokens to the other team. If a team secures all 8 tricks, they earn three tokens known as "Kapothi." If both teams win an equal number of tricks (4 each), no tokens are transferred, but the next team to win more than 4 tricks earns an extra token.

The first team to accumulate 10 or more tokens emerges as the triumphant champion of Sinhala Omi!
